I have agreed to take part in the European Wanderers' 'Monte Carlo or Bust!' charity bike ride on 25th June 2016. One of 17 riders to take part in a 321-mile, four-day bike ride from Geneva to Monte Carlo with the aim of raising a combined minimum total of £10,000 for 4 different charities. My chosen charity for the ride is Cancer Research UK.
The route takes advantage of our proximity to the Alps riding through the French and Italian Alps and then the Maritime Alps, climbing over 29,000ft as we head south to Monte Carlo and finally riding a short distance along the Mediterranean coast to Nice.
As if that were not enough there’s two challenging additional route sections for riders looking for a little extra. These will include the famous Alpe d'huez climb which is a Tour de France regular and Col de Tende on the French/Italian boarder the highest pass in the Alps.
The costs of the trip are self-funded and all money raised will go to the charity. If you're reading this and thinking "what not another bloke dealing with his mid-life crisis by donning lycra and getting sponsorship for doing something he'd love to do anyway"... You'd be right but hey if we can raise some money for a fantastic cause why not!? www.justgiving.com/fundraising/GenMC-Richard-Perrins
